Strength and Honour (2007)
Director: Mark Mahon
Movie review
From Time Out New York
When Sean Kelleher (Madsen) accidentally kills his friend in a sparring match, he vows to never box again—until his wife unexpectedly dies and his kid needs an expensive surgical procedure. He enters a bare-knuckle boxing tournament, but must face the champ, Smasher O’Driscoll (Jones), before he can win the prize money. The secret to a good boxing movie lies with inspiring training montages, and Strength and Honour doesn’t have enough of them. It does, however, cast a necessary spotlight on the woeful state of the Irish health-care system—these are sad times when a man must fight in a warehouse to get proper medical attention for his family.Author: Drew Toal
