Salamanca, Spain, and crowds jostle in the main square as secret service agents usher in the US President (William Hurt) to make an address before an international conference negotiates a new accord on the war on terror. As a TV news director (Sigourney Weaver) marshals her cameras, a shot rings out and the leader of the free world crumples to the ground. What just happened? Let’s rewind… before you can say ‘Rashomon’ we’re seeing the same events from another perspective (the Presidential POV), then another (veteran bodyguard Dennis Quaid), and even, eventually, from the vantage point of the perpetrators. Sounds fascinatingly ambiguous, no?Well, it might have been if the film had been made 35 years ago, but one simple truth emerges: murderous Arab extremists won’t escape US intelligence forces, not even in a high-speed car-chase down narrow side-streets lined with café tables.
Although mounted with no little efficiency by director Pete Travis (who previously made the TV drama-doc ‘Omagh’), the narrative enterprise actually hides a one-dimensional world view, with civilian casualties mere background set dressing. Crass indeed.

This movie was so bad it was funny - I had a great evening with my fellow audience members! When it rewound, everyone laughed heartily and the cheesy one liners 'I got you Mr. President' were so melodramatic I was in hysterics!!
I recommend this film to anyone who is looking for a good comedy! Whitaker and Quaid over-act at every moment they could be easily fit into a Will Ferrell movie! Go see to laugh at an appalling script and melodrama at its finest! - Report as inappropriate

Try to think about what the director really wants to talk about?

- Posted on Mar 20 2008 17:03 Not that great, was very irritating specially when it kept going to the start after the 39th time I was getting pretty angry, girl at the rear of me lost the plot. Not a thriller. Could have been sooooooooo much better, punt the director. He's pants.

I would describe this film as a gripping thriller.
It wasn't entirely predictable....and is far better than some reviews suggest. the best film of 2008 so far. - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Mar 18 2008 14:59 If you look at it sesibly, this film is only about 15 mins in length. It keeps rewinding to 11:59:58 am and giving you the view from someone elses point of view, but it all seems the same, just a different camera! I got bored and ate my ice cream instead.

I agree with Nick. I saw this movie last night and the entire audience were laughing at the ludicrous plot and groaning when they keep rewinding over and over again. It was entirely unbelievable, a pretty bad crime for a movie trying to base itself on possible current affairs.
Plot bad, acting bad, and the finale ? rubbish.

- Posted on Mar 17 2008 13:29 I've never written an online review before, but like broken glass on the pavement, I feel a duty to my fellow man to warn them about this truly awful movie. I get the concept of 'rewinding' for different perspectives on the same event, but by rewind 3 and 4 the audience were groaning with boredom, it was clearly time to move on 30 minutes too late. A terrible performance by Forrest Whitacker who milked every possible opportunity as the well meaning anguished witness, who then runs 5km chasing CIA agents despite being in an explosion and being clearly overweight. Fox from lost was weak too, his dying scene was more painful for the audience and the movies conclusion contrived, why would 'terrorists' convniently return to the scene of the crime to have an accident 20 metres away from the agent looking for them. This movie is bad , and like the little girl running into traffic only to freeze like a cliched rabbit, I felt caught in the headlights of awful American film making. I should have watched the slightly less patronising movie with the wooly mammoths ...
