Movie review

From Time Out London

Kicking bottom-feeding dross like ‘Superhero Movie’ is like shooting fish in a barrel, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done. What’s most dispiriting is how far the once relatively respectable genre of the spoof movie has plummeted from the days of ‘Airplane!’, ‘The Naked Gun’ and Leslie Nielsen, who features here . The ‘plot’ is essentially ‘Spider-Man’, but draws in elements from ‘X-Men’ and ‘Superman’: films already perfectly aware of their own absurdity. More welcome would have been a riff on Chris Nolan’s po-faced ‘Batman’ reboot, but no such luck.

It’s nice to see old lags like Robert Hays and Keith David still pulling down a paycheck, but at what cost? Any reader who spurns advice and finds him or herself bemoaning the waste of 85 perfectly good minutes should spare a thought for the poor saps who squandered months making the thing.

Posted on Jul 06 2008 15:08 i took my 11 year old son to watch it, fortunately he was just about old enough to understand the "very" near to the bone comedy, although there were children there much younger and i thought it wasn`t suitable for them. This film was funny in parts but i felt it should have a rating of a 12 or 15.

Posted on Jun 19 2008 22:16 mr huddleston said the plot has nothing from batman ,i think he forgot the very vivid killing of the parents as they come out of a theatre plus the urge to fly as drogonfly itself hovers around bats

Posted on Jun 18 2008 01:26 a pleasant surprise spoof os the superhero genre which is both witty and well written,it mixes spidermen, batman, and xmen to make a dragonflymen and it works from the gawky teenagers to the hammy villains with some very creative visual gags which are hilarious and inventive too, this has been given a raw deal by the critics as it is cleverer then i assumed from the reviews ,infact it is a very funny spoof and the special effects are very good too,so it works on all levels .bravo for the miniheroes who made this funny satire on the billion dolaar genre but they have nothing to be ashamed of as their message gets home well and truly
