Pathology (2008)
Director: Marc Schoelermann
Movie review
From Time Out New York
There’s ample hackwork—in a morgue, no less—in this murky, gruesome, utterly disposablemed-resident thriller from Germany’s Marc Schoelermann, whose only personal stamp seems to be a fondness for Seven’s helicopter shots. Harvard grad Ted (Ventimiglia) arrives at his internship in big, bad L.A. and immediately runs afoul of his vampire-like peers, who enjoy late-night autopsy sessions, copulation near corpses and an unusual amount of pre-op roughhousing. Ted doesn’t put up much of a fight; no doubt his instant moral descent was considered “edgy” by someone involved. An earlier generation had Flatliners. We have this.

- Posted on Jul 14 2009 21:27 I thought it was an intriguing concept that, if done right, would've made for a fantastic movie. The twisted characters were interesting, but flat at the same time. I think that the sex was actually a little excessive. I think that the leader of this game was psychotic and disturbing in all the best ways, but the rest of the players were passionless and had no mind capturing aspects. The main character was confusing at best, but played as well as he could be by Milo Ventimiglia. This movie needed to be rewritten, taking a serious look into how this game started and why the players found it so captivating and why Ted Gray (the main character) got involved at all. Also, the relationship between Ted and his fiance was lacking, especially since he cheated on her and then was so willing to avenge her death. I was pleasantly surprised at the end when the nice pathologist character, who I was sure was going to die, ended up aiding Ted in killing the ring leader. I think this movie would've been fantastic if the writers had taken more time to develop the story.

A fantastic and thrilling movie with some great performances from a cast of minor stars and beautiful cinematography. Gore is plentiful, but not shocking or distracting; there are a few sex scenes which are brief but in contrast with the gruesome nature of the film.
Since opinions seem to be mixed, I'd suggest just going out, seeing the film and forming your own opinion. I see it as a phenomenal and disturbing thriller and one of my favourite entries into the genre. - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Oct 10 2008 18:51 I gave this 3 stars for the cinematography alone. I liked all the sets; they were very atmospheric. But that's as good as it gets. The acting is shoddy, especially from the lead, and you don't know how to really feel when watching this movie - I mean, the man character is a murderer and cheats on his fiancé, and is a complete arsehole, so you don't really want him to come out on top. I wish he'd have just died. Horribly. A lame excuse for a movie. Want a top new horror? Watch 'P2' instead....

As two Anatomical Pathology Technicians, who dissect and remove the organs for the Pathologists as a Full Time job, have been made to look like sick individuals - we didi wonder whether the film would make up weary of being on our own hehe, but in actual fact we laughed most of it - Hopefully people will realise that this would never happen!!! We enjoyed it but only because it reflected our job and could identify with it - i'm sure anyone else didtant from the job probably felt they had wasted their time watching it!!
But good for anyone who deals with the dead,
It was entertaining and thats what films are designed to do!! - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Apr 16 2008 17:16 i think its a total waste of time and money, totally unrealistic notions, cant label is as much of horror or a thriller,i guess the direction was not right,it does not even provide much of an intellectual facination even for someone in scientific feild which is partly what the movie is aiming at,anyone planning on watching the movie my advice would be a thumps down

- Posted on Apr 14 2008 22:31 Terrible film. Don't waste your money.. The acting in the film was poor, the characters were unconvincing and emotionless. Went to see this film with my mum, the unnecessary porn scenes made it embarrasing. The plot had potential, which was evidently wasted during 1 hr 30 mins of attempted gore. Not a horror. Not a thriller. OVER-RATED.. spoof?

- Posted on Apr 14 2008 21:21 Is it a late April fools? One of the worst films I've ever seen. Awful characters, poor writing and acting. Indulgent gore - tired to shock a bit like Hostel but fails and just looked poor. I'm still not convinced it wasn't a horror spoof...

- Posted on Apr 13 2008 22:58 My girl and me didn't like this at all. The characters in the movie are very unconvincing. The main character, who joins a group of fools who get a thrill from killing people at random and partying around the bodies. It is not clear why this guy joins them, but he seems to be trying to be a killer while at work and a decent guy while on a break with his fiancee. At the end, everyone but him and one of his colleagues ( who turns into a killer about 40 seconds before the end ) gets killed. There is a lot of blood and chopped bodies in the movie but it fails to scare you. I advise against watching this crap.

Bad points: Felt like a cross between flatliners and lost boys, but without charm; Didn't warm to the characters; little charisma; no sympathy for the main character's plight because he deserved it (although he didn't seem too bothered about his loss)! totally unrealistic - a bunch of Drs dancing, snogging and eating sandwiches around murdered corpses; trying to glam up murder; wasn't particularly jumpy, just gory and disgusting; predictable plot; horrible ‘romantic’ section with piano and strings while the main guy dissected his girlfriend.
Good Points: So bad, we had a great afternoon out, slagging it off; the ‘ringleader’ was quite a convincing psycho…that’s about it. - Report as inappropriate
