From Time Out New York

Smitten with country girl Pooja (Kareena Kapoor), Mumbai player Jimmy (Ali Khan) agrees to give English lessons to her boss, flamboyant businessman Bhaiyyaji (Anil Kapoor), in hopes of spending time with her. By the time Jimmy realizes Pooja is a heartless femme fatale, he’s helped her steal $250,000 from Bhaiyyaji, who turns out to be a vicious gangster; the double-, triple- and quadruple-crosses soon begin. Vijay Krishna Acharya’s nutty mix of Tarantino-style attitude, Leone-esque gunplay, Hong Kong–influenced action and musical numbers has tashan (“style”) to burn.

Posted on May 11 2008 12:56 I think it was an exellent film, great costumes, great story and great action. What else do we want. Something different to your normal girl meet boy love story. Kareena looked Fab. We saw Anil Kapoor in a different role. Akshay Kumar's action was impressive.Has bollywood yet seen the martial arts that were done in this movie, and I think Saif looked adorable. Give the film a break

Posted on May 10 2008 10:19 Anyone who may think The Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor And Anil Kapoor starrer is going to be a blockbuster; they have to think again. From the title name TASHAN to Bhaiyaji AKA Anil Kapoor's accent is hard to dig, not to mention his overacting. It is hard to believe a superstar like Akshay Kumar who gave us 5 Blockbusters last year would involve himself in this unrewarding project. Acting in a film under Yash Raj banner is not what it used to be as they haven't been able to produce a decent hit film since Doom 2. Akshay Kumar's stunts in the movie are amazing but badly portrayed which is a shame. Saif Ali lacks charisma, Kareena KAppor plays an unconvincing role and Anil Kappor's comic character with the fake English Accent is dreadful. I would give this movie 1 star.

Posted on May 03 2008 11:16 dreadfully stylish diversive dribble
if there was an award for making a stylish travelogue across india with a subversive road epic populated with moronic villains and gorgeous scenery ,then this would easily be the ultimate winner .
from u-turn to -in bruges and bollywoods own munnabhai to musafir ,the comic gangster CAPER has been portrayed in a vicariously rich variety ,here it's kapoor's turn to be equated as a comic caricature of a kanpuri don to bite the dust .
it is also shameful that akshay kumar actually makes direct equivocal comparisons between amitabh bachan and this really perverted ,ragtag don -if this is a joke it was not amusing and if it was a quip on mr.bachan, then it was tasteless ,both on part of yashraj and akshay kumar ,whatever the faults of mr.bachan ,he is far more talented then mr.kumar.
mr.kumar incidentally is called bachan badmash in this rather familiar and diversionary cinema ,which has everything from stylish stunts, gorgeous kareena in a bikini and locales to die for but alas lacks the one thing obligatory to make good cinema -a script,it seems like the bollywood writers were on a strike and they made this as an incoherent mix of jet li martial arts and -wild wild west -jokes in a rancid blend of somewhat stylish vendetta road drama ,the fact this road does not lead anywhere is obvious after the first 20 minutes .
the songs are average except for falak tak chal=which is choreographed in an eye-catching manner ,mr.kapoor overacts as a revisionist clone of javed jaffrey from salam namaste, while saif has little to do except run around like an errand boy ,kareena has the best role but it's not enough.-she is the best thing about this both with regards ro looks and performance.
the flashy costumes suit the overblown characters ,the action is incredible in the negative sense of the word, flying -free running -kite flying ,all the crap and the director is mediocre ,though he has a flair for visual style but he needs a script which is less familiar then this and offers something unique rather than this bull tripe .
i learnt something today though ,mr.yash chopra has had a huge quarrel with mr.bachan -so get ready to see a bollywood battle played out by some bollywood baddies on the screen ,
whether it is a metaphor or just a bad story is anybody's guess .
for record kareena has no screen chemistry with saif and she really disappoints after GEET of JAB WE MET,she looks good but we need to see her in a convincing script ,particularly when we know how good she is after JWM AND OMKARA .
this unfortunately does not come near them in either entertainment or artistic cadre -i feel sorry for all involved as this was a fancy project-and by the way -what the hell is TASHAN .- jbz7879
