Movie review

From Time Out London

Coupling the men-on-a-mission antics of ‘Armageddon’ with the catch-all sci-fi pastiche of TV’s ‘Futurama’, ‘Space Chimps’ is an underwhelming slice of lowbrow CGI entertainment. When a hi-tech space probe veers off course on to an uncharted planet, a team of NASA chimpanzees are assigned to a retrieval mission. With Owen Wilson clearly unavailable, SNL alumnus Andy Samberg provides the voice for Ham, the laconic jokester forced to prove his worth. Despite a painfully lurid visual palette and some limp scripting, ‘Space Chimps’ at least succeeds as undemanding multiplex fare.

Posted on Aug 20 2008 14:18 I'm sorry to say this but in my honest opinion this is a huge disappointment. The plot was laughable as it was but it could have at least been supported by a decent script - sadly this was nowhere to be found. It's mindless mass entertainment at its worst. It's like that "friend" who you don't really like but always hangs around, desperately trying to be funny at every opportunity but failing miserably (I know - I was this person once). Combine that with a ridiculous plotline from completely out of the blue and you have a stomach-churning experience you will not under any circumstances want to repeat.
Have mercy on yourself and your children - watch Wall-E instead.
