Beautiful Losers (2008)
Director: Aaron Rose, Joshua Leonard
Movie review
From Time Out London
So, yeah, in the early, like, ’90s there were, like, some artists and filmmakers like Barry McGee and Shepard Fairey and Ed Templeton and and Harmony Korine who made, like, crazy street art and, like, crazy films. Some of these guys, like, loved skating and hanging out at Aaron Rose’s scuzzy gallery in New York called, like, Alleged. It’s Rose who, like, made this vague but, like, likeable film about his friends, who say sweet but dumb things like ‘Why have cancer? Why not be funny?’. But, like, they’re obviously a decent bunch with, like, good hearts. When the ’90s became the ’00s, they got, like, famous and people like Pepsi gave them, like, money to do more crazy shit but with, like, logos. So how do you, like, not sell out? It’s hard, man. Rose, like, lost his gallery, but then in 2004 curated a show in Cincinnatti with these guys and called it, like, ‘Beautiful Losers’. And made, like, this film. So that’s cool.Author: Dave Calhoun
