Breakfast with Scot (2007)
Director: Laurie Lynd
Movie review
From Time Out New York
Canada, our liberal neighbor to the north, is the land of Breakfast with Scot, where child services cajoles two hesitant gay men into looking after an orphaned boy. Eric (Cavanagh), a sports commentator and retired hockey player who’s on the down low at work, doesn’t want his new boa-wearing ward to blow his cover. Life lessons lurk—just be yourself, adults!—as half-pint Scot (Bernett) practices his cheerleader routines. But even as Eric and his lawyer boyfriend, Sam (Shenkman), are chided for being closeted, their relationship is conveyed in anodyne, asexual fashion; the two men barely touch. Laurie Lynd doesn’t squeeze much emotion out of supporting cast members, either: They’re as subdued as Scot is OTT.Author: Anna King
