A fascinating equivocation of home life with political reality, as devoted father Michele learns that his daughter isn't just the shy bookworm type, but a full-blown schizophrenic with murderous tendencies. This central narrative is contrasted with the rise of Mussolini's fascists, drawing an unsubtle but powerful parallel between terror in the nation and madness in the family.
