Posted on Aug 27 2009 18:53 The most exhilarating film of the year. Raw, stylish, and emblematic of the 'new wave' in Bollywood that's taken off over the last few years. 'Kaminey' makes slumdog millionaire look like Tintin. when will Time Out review films like this, instead of wasting time on reruns of the same old stories from the USA or western europe? The 1990s was the time of wong kar wai and park chan wook and latin america. now, the reach of 'exuberant' cinema goes further. P.s. 'kaminey' is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, who has received international acclaim for his Shakespearean adaptations: 'Omkara' (Othello set in modern India, mark kermode called it a 'hidden jewel of 2006'), and 'Maqbool' (Macbeth set in the mumbai underworld). wake up guys, smell the coffee...
