Movie review

From Time Out Online

‘Chill Bill’, more like. This documentary on the early and latter years of laid-back soulster Bill Withers is quite an eye opener, not least for the 70-year-old singer-songwriter’s wise philosophical musings – his opinions on the music industry, then and now, could not be more on the mark – and general air of contentment. The writer of ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ rose from aircraft toilet installer to instant pop star in the blink of an eye, and this eloquent film aptly captures it all in absorbing detail, with amazing performance footage, a few old TV interviews and several enlightening moments with family members and fellow contemporaries. Love it.
