Movie review

From Time Out Online

A movie about a trailer-park dwelling high school hermaphrodite who enters a dance contest shouldn't have to work too hard to be quirky, but 'Spork' still puts a lot of effort into scoring indie-oddball credibility. Teen TV vet Savannah Stehlin is superb as the genitally challenged title character, whose wayward path through the adolescent jungle includes run-ins with Britney-holic rich bitches, loudmouth breakdance mavens and one very confused Judy Garland wannabe. But director J B Ghuman Jr just can't hold himself back, chucking animation, split-screen, slapstick and some rather dubious racial stereotypes into an already overloaded stylistic and thematic mishmash. The result is heartfelt but dangerously hyperactive.
