Movie review

From Time Out London

Star Katherine Heigl actually makes 2010’s superficially similar Jennifer Aniston vehicle ‘The Bounty Hunter’ look superior with this squabbling ex-lovers action-romance, a leaden, visually drab affair in which a rookie bail-bonds agent with a perpetually gawked-at chest (Heigl) is tasked with tracking down her former flame (Jason O’Mara), a cop wanted for murder. Flirty bickering is rampant but, courtesy of Heigl’s inert performance, there’s no heat or humour to the proceedings, just an avalanche of grating big-hair-and-bad-accent Nu Joisey caricatures. The producers were clearly pitching for a franchise by adapting the first novel in Janet Evanovich’s bestselling Stephanie Plum series – a hope that seems unlikely to be fulfilled given the film’s disastrous critical reception.

Posted on Feb 28 2012 20:22 Now...Now.... We know the book series is brilliantly written and our imaginations have run riot. But this film has all the elements humour (understated) sex, violence, explosions,Rex, Lula et al. To bring this to real-life screen is a huge challenge. Agree with the 12A rating to violent....but you only know this if you have read the books.Katie does humour and sexy very well (it is not really a Rom-Com) but a "Gum Shoe" meets spandex (Hey, just like the books !) I would have loved to see Morelli run over in flash back ! All this in 90 mins a tough job to keep it moving(remember Hitchhichers Guide ?) The cast and Director have done a good job here,it's a pity that there is such negative comment.....Ah well.....

Posted on Feb 26 2012 14:39 Go and make your own mind up on this film. This is better than the Bounty Hunter and was almost certainly much cheaper to make.
This isn't a new story, it isn't unique and yes it is a bit formulaic but it is enjoyable enough. As far as rom com's go it is ok and you will see much worse films than this.
Its worth at least 2 and almost 3 stars. I doubt there will be a follow up but its a diverting couple of hours. There will be much worse date movies than this.

Posted on Feb 26 2012 09:36 Perhaps, due to the unlimited card which meant my film av. £1.30 or the fact it allows me to see REAL dreck that I'd never "pay" for, that my attitude differs on rather enjoyable pap like this. Baring an incorrect cert (12A? TOO violent, and I know a characters surname is "Kuntz" but they OBVIOUSLY made every effort to use it for comedy effect FOUR times!) I found it quick, disposable & fun, like a seaside arcade but a lot cheaper! Anyway, agree with T.O. or agree with me...we both agree no further "chapters" required. 6/10

Grandma should have been betty white..Monique should have been lola..The rock as Ranger..And an italian man as morelli..What the sam hill happened..This movie will be a huge flop! I hate it already and I havent seen it and most likely I wont either..so sad
