Amador (2011)
Director: Fernando León de Aranoa
Movie review
From Time Out Online
Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa writes and directs this well-meaning drama, focusing on the lives of Bolivian immigrants in Madrid, specifically Marcela (Magaly Solier) and her flower-selling partner Nelson (Pietro Sibille). In order to make ends meet, Marcela accepts a job taking care of elderly, bedridden Amador (Celso Bugallo) while his family are away, but his sudden death leads Marcela to extreme measures in order to secure her full pay. ‘Amador’ tackles its subject matter with honourable intent, yet the film lacks the flair and melodrama of more recent Spanish social commentaries such as Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘Biutiful’.Author: Daniel Green

Very witty and playful dark comedy with a fantastic lead performance. The storyline was as taut as any thriller I've seen and the middle section was almost unbearably tense. Great characters too, very rounded and human.
As a note on the review above, I feel it is wrong to pigeonhole it alongside Biutifl - the film is not necessarily "Spanish" and its storyline could happen in any western country, and we shouldn't view any film through the prism of a big production film just because they appear in the same language. - Report as inappropriate
