The House (2011)
Director: Zuzana Liová
Movie review
From Time Out Online
Slovakian director Zuzana Liová’s second feature, ‘The House’ (‘Dom’), is a slow, yet rewarding redemptive tale of familial bonds, which centres on the seemingly emotionless patriarch Imrich (Miroslav Krobot), who has dedicated the last few years of his life to building homes for his two daughters adjacent to the family property. His overly-controlling demeanour has already succeeded in pushing away his eldest daughter Jana (Lucia Jasková) and his youngest, Eva (Judit Bárdos), has already planned her escape to London. Though unremarkable in many ways, strong performances and a compelling final third help to lift ‘The House’ above your average European family drama - just.Author: Daniel Green
