Movie review

From Time Out Online

Andrea Molaioli's loose take on the illegal machinations leading up to the controversial collapse of one of Italy’s most profitable companies is reminiscent of David Fincher’s 'The Social Network' in the way it utilises a seductively lit, thriller format to create a keen sense of tension and impending doom. Toni Servillo, especially, is extraordinary in his role as the beleaguered but hard-assed chief financial officer fending off the inevitable destruction of the business while the Neros around him swan about in private jets and fancy cars. ‘The Jewel’ is both a gripping corporate thriller and a timely encapsulation of the current state of economic gloom.
