Pinóquio is located on Placa dos Restauradores, right in Lisbon’s historic centre, and could be mistaken to be one of those typical tourist places that sells overpriced dried sardines. On further investigation it turns out that this restaurant is all good. It has good fresh fish from the Portuguese coast (grouper), great crabs (large, ugly and very tasty) and of course excellent clams – possibly the dish that reaches the most tables. If it’s sunny the terrace is recommended, as it’s a good place to perch and watch the frenzy of people walking by on Restauradores – from local businessmen to tourists admiring the architecture. To complete their meal, almost everyone orders a classic house dish, the Pica-Pau (woodpecker). These are diced pieces of steak, cooked quickly in a sauce of olive oil, garlic (lots of garlic!) and bay leaves.
