The Inter-Continental is an 18-floor Goliath. Renovated in 2008, the style remains brash, the tone set by a golden staircase spiralling up from the lobby and a glitzy, palm-filled atrium.
Decor aside, the hotel is well appointed, although most of the 388 rooms are a bit smaller than others in this price category. Those on the Club Floor (actually the top four floors) are preferable, but pricey.
Mick Jagger and Liz Taylor are some of the celebrities who have stayed in the four lavish Presidential Suites. The Safran restaurant was recommended by Acadèmie Internationale de la Gastronomie and top-floor City Lights bar offers spectacular views but steep prices. The hotel is a ten-minute walk from central Taksim Square.
