The former soup kitchens of the Süleymaniye Mosque complex now turn out more varied fare. But if the present menu runs to several pages, the food is still canteen cooking - great for lunch (a favourite with tour buses) but too prosaic for dinner.
The setting, a large courtyard filled with rose bushes and trees, is potentially lovely but rendered institutional by cheap furniture and neglect. Vegetarians beware: the lentil soup contains submerged mini meatballs. The restaurant is located to the north of the mosque, separate from the row of small eateries which line its west side.
