Kaktüs' elegant dark-wood interior owes a great deal to the classic French café. Its patrons do their best to recreate the ambience of a Godard movie by chain-smoking and sipping blonde beers or black coffee. Stand-offish staff process the short-order menu that changes daily.
Since opening in the early 1990s, Kaktüs has spawned countless imitators, but it remains the coolest hang-out with some of the highest prices. Cadde-i Kebir across the street is similar in style, but sells beer for about half the price.
