Ahrida Synagogue review

Founded by Macedonians from the town of Ohrid (of which 'Ahrida' is a corruption) in the 15th century, the synagogue's congregation later comprised the city's Sephardic Jewish community who had fled Spain during the inquisition. The synagogue is still used by the Sephardic community, many of whom speak the medieval Spanish dialect Ladino. The wooden dome, restored in 17th-century baroque style, is exquisite.
