Like the more famous Yerebatan cistern, this one is a Byzantine forest of pillars and brick-vaulted ceilings, but sadly the restorers have put in a false floor that halves the original height of the chamber (a well at the centre illustrates the original floor level). No one has yet figured out what to do with the place and it currently unsuccessfully accommodates a couple of cafés, a bar and a restaurant. The admission fee gets you a free drink.
