A cut above many of Sultanahmet's more slapdash establishments. With wooden floors carpeted with old kilims, copper platters and creaking stairs between the restaurant's three floors, a night at Mozaik feels like a trip back in time. The quaint 'Ottoman' room drips with romantic potential for dinner à deux.

The international menu covers a worrying amount of ground - everything from chicken mandarin to T-bone steak - but chef Aydın Fidan's special is abant kebap, a spectacular West Anatolian dish. After dinner, head for the basement bar, one of the best in Sultanahmet.
