Old City has been a late-night haunt of nocturnal Istanbullus for years. It remains to be seen whether the recent renovation from its former dark and pokey state has stripped away some of its unmistakeable atmosphere.
The place is a bit of a hit or miss affair. But on the right night, you're guaranteed shot-fuelled dancing to live cover bands until all hours. The best way to avoid the wrong night (and the occasional entrance fee) is to peek through the windows on Istiklal Caddesi: there's no mistaking if the joint is jumping.
