The first boutique hotel on the Asian Shore, Aija opened in 2004 to great acclaim. Aijia is Japanese for Asia, and the Zen influence is palpable in the 16 sleek, pared down rooms, whose style successully contrasts with the traditional exterior of this restored waterfront mansion (or yalı) that once belonged to a pasha. It's little wonder that the Ajia is a favourite venue for weddings and honeymoons - the remote setting oozes romance. Helpful staff can arrange boat trips. The drawback? Prices are pretty steep. But if you're prepared to splash out, book one of the split-level deluxe suites overlooking the Bosphorus.
