Tucked round the corner from the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, the Ibrahim Paşa is an eminently likeable small hotel. It doesn't overplay the old Ottoman card and instead is stylishly modern, smart and bright, with just enough judiciously placed artefacts (including some fascinating old photographs in the breakfast area) to remind you that this is Istanbul.
Rooms can be small, but judicious use is made of space. The buffet breakfast has a good selection of cheeses, honey, bread, olives and much more. Staff are helpful; the ambience calm and relaxed. There are plenty of minarets and domes on show from the rooftop terrace.

This might have been nice when it was first done up but the "trendy" bathrooms particularly are now very tatty. We stayed in two different rooms and both were equally bad. Fixtures and fittings are cheap. Five of the seven windows in our second room were broken and wouldn't stay open - we propped the bathroom one up with a coat hanger! The first room was ridiculously over-priced given how small it was and the view from the balcony was down a dirty shaft. The terrace has no umbrellas so was unpleasantly hot sitting up there for breakfast - which we had to lug up on trays five flights ourselves... Given the price we were paying for the room we also felt it was incredibly cheeky that they charged extra for fresh orange juice at breakfast. It rather reflected the general feeling of miserliness here. Just doesn't live up to what it's trying to be. The lobby is nice - but then I didn't sleep there...
