The first boutique hotel on the Asian Shore, A'jia opened in 2004 to great acclaim. The white washed yalı (mansion) was built in 1876 and has at various times been an army barracks, housed Atatürk's advisor Ahmet Rasim Pasha and, later, a primary school. It's now a stunning residence, lapped by the Bosphorus.
The 16 sleek rooms contrast successfully with the traditional exterior. Each of the rooms facing the water has a balcony, and breakfast, and dinner can be taken on a large deck overlooking the Bosphorus. It's little wonder that the A'jia is a favourite venue for weddings and honeymoons. A'jia has its own boat, which can be used at any time to cross to Emigan opposite, or the fort at Rumeli Hisarı.
The hotel is well-placed for the Müzedechanga restaurant in the Sakip Sabanci museum directly opposite on the European shore. The free boat will drop guests off and pick them up again.
