Above the shops, (whose rents pay for its upkeep), the mosque is invisible from the street. It's quite a city secret, although it's one of the most beautiful mosques built by Sinan. Smaller than most of his works, it's also set apart by its liberal and dazzling use of coloured tiles. The first-floor forecourt, with its colonnaded canopy and potted plants high above the crowed alleys, is one of Istanbul's loveliest hideaways.
