Panorama 1453 History Museum review Rate it

In 1453 Sultan Mehmed II conquered Constantinople, marking the end of the Byzantine Empire in the area. This museum, opened by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoşan on 31 January 2009, depicts the siege of the city and the principal battle that led to its fall in a 2,350sq m panoramic painting that took three years to complete.

To enhance the experience, the multimedia museum uses the sounds of battle and includes objects from the time. In a neat twist, the Panorama 1453 is located by the very walls that were breached by the Janissaries.
