Mimar Sinan University Museum of Fine Arts review

The decrepit state of this poorly signposted museum, housed in a waterside mansion, suggests that few visitors find their way here. Shame, because the collection of Turkish art on display in the high-ceilinged halls includes some fine pieces. It all dates from the mid 19th- to mid 20th- century, mostly Orientalist in style. Look out for several notable works by Osman Hamdi Bey, one-time director of the Archaeology Museum. To find the museum, walk down the side-street south of the Naval Museum, pass through the gateway with the armed guard, cross the waterfront plaza and turn right at the end; it's the building on the left.
