The timeless tale of boy meets girl receives a facelift in Merry Opera’s ‘La Traviata’, where the outdated social conundrum of class is replaced by the challenge of religious differences. Set against the vibrancy and colour of present day London, this cabaret-style romp promises to be a fun and entertaining rollercoaster ride through one of opera's most heart-wrenching sagas.
‘La Traviata’ is the name of a sleazy 21st century London nightclub, where raunchy singing sensation Violetta is the star of the show. Alfredo is a posh city dweller, whose romance with Violetta takes a hit when the fact that he is Muslim surfaces. Another threat to the pair’s relationship comes in the shape of the Baron, a dangerous Polish drug dealer.
