The fifth MyDance Festival brings together the country’s finest dance proponents from classical, contemporary, folk, ballroom, Latin, hip hop and butoh backgrounds. Entitled Show Off!, the festival primarily comprises ‘Show Up!’, a showcase for emerging contemporary dance choreographers vying for a trip to catch Berlin’s Tanz im August festival, and ‘Showpieces’, three radically different performances that feature the who’s who in the local dance fraternity like ASWARA Dance Company and Sutra Dance Theatre. Dance novices can also join a Lim Sae Min-led flash mob rehearsal that culminates in a public performance at Dataran Merdeka (Jun 2, 5pm), while experienced dancers can strut their stuff at an exciting Latin and ballroom dance tea party at The Club @ Bukit Utama (May 25, 3pm) as well as a free masterclass series at ASWARA (Jun 1 & 2).
