Texture
Although Royal Gold claims to be ‘softer, stronger’ for silky comfort, this tissue is embossed with floral patterns and dots for more textural interest.
User experience
This ‘luxurious interleaf bathroom tissue’ has moderate perforation, making one-handed tearing an easy process.
Cost-effectiveness
Featuring 240 sheets of tissue squares per roll, Royal Gold boasts a slightly higher than average score.
Overoll performance
Like an aging aristocrat, Royal Gold has lost some of its sheen. Time to up your act, Royal Gold.
Kleenex Ultrasoft, RM17.90
Packaging
Kleenex’s recognisable logo is scrawled on a deep purple background printed on the plastic.
Texture
Striking a precarious balance between tough and soft, Kleenex is not the softest of them all. If you like your tissue paper to have more traction, this is it.
User experience
With multiple sheets rolling off with just one tug, Kleenex has excellent spin (making it perfect for certain emergencies).
Cost-effectiveness
Circumference-wise, Kleenex is one of the largest rolls. However, this three-ply virgin fibre tissue only has 210 sheets per roll.
Overoll performance
Kleenex stands up well in sticky situations, so it comes in as a close second. Plus, we like the fact they use paper from sustainable forests.

One of the more aesthetically pleasing packages out of them all, First Choice features a blurry image of pale purple lilies.
Texture
Smooth as a baby’s bottom, First Choice is also thick and fluffy. Case in point: It didn’t rub our noses raw during a particularly terrible bout of flu.
User experience
First Choice has more perforation along its dotted lines. Easier use, guys. It also has the fastest absorption rate among its peers.

This hypoallergenic tissue roll is the second smallest out of the line-up, but it also features 240 sheets of tissue squares per roll.
Overoll performance
Not only is First Choice impressive when it comes to moisture absorption, it’s also comfortingly soft. This is the one roll to rule them all.

Packaging
Blue with large pink lettering spelling out ‘Soft’, Cutie Soft’s packaging is supposedly an updated version of its previous edition.
Texture
Rather rough with a greyish sheen, Cutie Soft is neither cute nor soft.
User experience
This dishevelled two-ply tissue separates easily, which makes it one messy affair. Little bits of tissue also fell out when we first removed it from the package.
Cost-effectiveness
Cutie Soft has the smallest cardboard tube, but it measured widest in diameter (take note if your washroom has a smaller dispenser). Rather loosely rolled, Cutie Soft clocks in at 200 sheets per roll. Boo.
Overoll performance
Cutie Soft isn’t particularly great or of much value, but if cleaning up is your only requirement, Cutie Soft will do.
Feather Soft, RM15.99
Packaging
All pale cream and gold tones, Feather Soft ups the hygienic game by wrapping its rolls in individual packets.
Texture
Feather Soft boasts superior smoothness due to its ‘dense formation’. Smooth it is. Feather soft it is not. It’s quite dense and has a rather papery texture.
User experience
Made from 100 percent virgin wood pulp, Feather Soft is a tight three-ply tissue that performs well under pressure.
Cost-effectiveness
The smallest roll of the lot, the space-efficient Feather Soft has 250 sheets of fine white paper tightly packed in the roll.
Overoll performance
Due to its dense weave that contributed to its durability, Feather Soft wins a deserving third place in this battle.
