After months of open nominations and voting, the public has chosen the best restaurants, cafés and bars in KL for 2016. You’ll notice there’s a name change to the awards – they’re now known as the Time Out KL Food & Drink Awards. This is inspired by the tremendous growth of our drinking scene this year, spurred especially by the new wave of cocktail bars. To acknowledge that, we’ve added these new categories: Best Cocktail Bar, Best Beer Bar and Best Neighbourhood Bar.

For the first time, the Best New Openings category is judged by a panel of Time Out KL food and drink critics. We want to highlight to you the most exciting and promising new openings of the year, be it a café that represents the next evolution in our local coffee culture, or a bar that reinvents the drinking experience, or a restaurant that offers a different perspective on local produce.

The café scene in KL is growing stronger. And these five design houses are responsible for some of the most Instagrammable cafés in the city.

Are you ready for the big day? With our New Year’s Eve Survival Guide, you’ll get a head start on your party planning. We have listed the best places to watch fireworks, the best restaurants for group dining, and even caterers to bring you food if you decide to have a house party.

It has been an annual tradition here at Time Out KL where we compile the best dishes we’ve eaten throughout the year. For 2016, we have a number of creative dishes by some of the city’s top chefs, plus some old favourites worth revisiting. There are desserts too, and a very good crab curry.

Our practical gift guides are all you need this holiday season. We have a cheap and cheerful guide to gifting under RM50, a selection of gifts for foodies, plus made-in-Malaysia treats and treasures for every KLite.

You favourite dessert is getting an alcoholic upgrade. With this feature, you’ll know where to find the best boozy ice creams in the city.
