Founded in 2015, local creative brand Loka Made produces art books, pop-up postcards and notebooks by its team of local artists, designers and illustrators that are inspired by slices of life in Malaysia.

What if there were gondola lifts in KL? What if the fishing boats at Penang’s jetties were suspended mid-air like a scene straight out of a Miyazaki film? What if the city was populated by precariously stacked tailor shops and dai chow stalls? Co-founder of creative brand Loka Made and illustrator Chong Fei Giap combines his love of local architecture (old cinemas, sundry shops), aspects of everyday life (old signboards, flower wreaths at Indian temples, rusty sheet metal roofs, Chinese lunar calendars) and Japanese art into this work, reimagining Malaysia and reassembling local elements in his fantastical sketches.

According to co-founder Audrey Chew, Loka Made is a local brand that believes in the concept of discovery. By adding their twist of fantasy and creative imagination, Loka Made puts the fun beyond the bits and pieces of what makes up Malaysia.

Look out for their Loka Made retail stores in Central Market and Art Row@Publika when it opens this month.

Available at Kinokuniya, The Curiousity Shop at 1 Mont Kiara, SuperMart at Sunway Pyramid, and LOKA Malaysia at Nu Sentral. For more info, visit www.lokamade.com
