If you don't have major plans this long weekend, here are a bunch of things you can do:

Picturing The Nation
Get cultured at Ilham Gallery that will be highlighting art works from Dato’ Hoessein Enas, one of Malaysia’s pioneer portrait artist in the exhibition.

KL International Arts Festival
If you're looking for a place with beer and music, head to the ever reliable Merdekarya. Shh..Diam!, Hameer Zawawi, Lukarts, Skits, Mystery Tapes, Brendan De Cruz and Sid play on Aug 29. Fabian Mark Peter, Hilmy Amim, Zalila Lee, The Maha Jeffrey Band, Kien Lim and Brian Gomez & the Have-Nots close the two-day event. Stay on for the countdown with Azmyl Yunor and Orkes Padu. This show is part of DiverseCity's music festival segment.

Indiego & Co X Solid Gold Merdeka Eve Party
Countdown to Merdeka with the boys of Indiego & Co and Solid Gold as the two join forces at Pisco Bar with a banging party featuring indie, nu disco and electro tunes. Alternatively, head to Nagaba for Kate Simko and watch her live set that features interactive audio-visuals to go with her mixes, or head to Heli Lounge Bar for great city views. .

KartX Merdeka Challenge 2015
If you want to celebrate Merdeka in a more active vein, hop in a go-kart and speed your way to glory at this Merdeka race challenge. Just show up early at the Subang Jaya race course, participate in the ten-minute open qualifying sessions from 6.30pm to 9.45pm and if your best time's good enough, join the race at 10pm.
