Kuda Ku Tidak Rela Mati: A documentary by Norhayati Kaprawi

Directed by women and Islamic activist Norhayati Kaprawi, this Malay documentary is about a group of men and women from Parit Raja, Batu Pahat, Johor with a mission to preserve the traditional culture of kuda kepang. The heritage art form believed to be a fundamental part of their Javanese and Islamic identity was abruptly discontinued after a fatwa (Islamic ruling) declared it haram (forbidden). A discussion with the director will commence after the film screening. This event is a part of KL Alternative Bookfest (KLAB 2014) + Art For Grabs happening from Mar 28–29.
