Buttressing Beer Junction as a craft brew stronghold is its extensive range of niche labels. Owner Daniel Tan brings this cultish affair to his no-frills bar that offers at least 47 types of independent beers and ciders. Beer Junction was established out of passion. ‘I like the idea that alcohol associates people with places. When you think Cognac, it’s always France. Warsteiner? Germany. Every alcohol has a backstory and that makes drinking even more interesting,’ Daniel says.
The encyclopaedic selection at Beer Junction has an international focus, enticing you with unusual names like Anker Boscoli fruit beer (a white ale produced with a coulis of fresh fruits), Thatchers Green Goblin (an apple cider aged in 100-year-old oak vats) as well as Wychwood Wychcraft (a pale ale with a heady burst of citrusy aroma). The bulk of Beer Junction’s inventory originates from the smaller regions of Belgium, England and Scotland.
Unlike some local outfits that serve craft brews on tap, Beer Junction only sells in bottles. But that doesn’t deter this neighbourhood bar from drawing praise for its comfy, minimalist bar setup (there’s only a pool table and sports channel on TV).
