We think it’s a smart move for Mandarin Oriental to create a new lounge bar to complement the club-beat thumping Sultan Lounge. So comes Casbah, which literally means castle or palace.
Located above Sultan Lounge, Casbah is designed as a contemporary Arabesque Lounge. Edgy furniture and exotic light fixture give it a sexy vibe and an Arabian Nights fantasy sort of opulence. Food wise, expect innovative mezze and tapas reminiscent of flavours from Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa and Spain.
Still, judging from the little sneak peak we had, the cocktails are the highlights. They are tastily potent and very, very creative. Think cocktails made of cotton candy and creamy espresso inspired concoctions. The music here – lounge and chill rhythms with Arabian influence – is kept to a volume that doesn’t inhibit conversation. You can be sure that this is one bar you can go with friends for some much needed catch up. Lim Chee Wah
