KL’s oldest park is having a party of sorts, in the form of an arts festival. Some of the activities lined up are storytelling sessions, workshops, talks and music performances. Don’t be surprised to see sculptures and installations popping up, coexisting with the lush green views of the park. More than ten artists will be showcasing their work including Marvin Chan, Umibaizurah Ismail, Lisa Foo, Abdul Multhalib Musa, Marie Hugo (France) and Handiwirman Saputra (Indonesia).
One of the festival highlights is the art installation ‘Pantun Forest’ by Marie Hugo. Taking inspiration from Malay poems popularised by Marie’s illustrious ancestor Victor Hugo, she gives the pantun a visual and universal dimension by carving messages onto tree trunks or leaves hanging from branches. The poems are written in Malay, French, English and Jawi scripts with keywords to guide visitors.
