Last time we looked outside the city centre for great spots to eat, we went to Yeadon and Otley. Today we head to Adel, Cookridge and Horsforth.

With beautiful green scenery, including the superb York Gate Gardens, the Adel, Cookridge and Horsforth suburbs are amongst of the most picturesque parts of Leeds.

On top of that, these locations are ideal if you're partial to decent Italian food; these suburbs boast arguably the finest pizzas and pastas across the city. Here are a few foodie treasures you can enjoy:

Trattoria Il Forno

This is one of those gems that, once you discover it, you'll kick yourself for not having visited sooner. Offering some of the best pizza in Leeds, the food on offer here is so good that you'll probably need to book a table well in advance.

While the pizza is to die for, the gelato is divine. A nice touch is the option to buy fresh garlic mayo to dip your crusts, and this restaurant is suitable for families, couples and groups of friends.

Be warned though: if you go big on the pizza, you'll need to be on your A game in terms of appetite.

For those who love good bistro food, this is a must visit restaurant. While the menu is not one for those of you who are looking to stay on a budget, the food on offer is excellent quality, full of fresh and seasonal food for hungry diners.

Many of the mains are worth mentioning, but it is the Sunday roast that gets the rave reviews and draws people back time and again.

Divino

If you're going along the Leeds to Otley road and need to re-fuel then you won't find many better options than Divino. With excellent pasta and pizza dishes on offer, including a fantastic prawn and smoked salmon pasta dish, this Italian is one that can hold its own in a very competitive scene in Leeds.

It's also worth leaving room for pudding. Although not exactly Italian, its chocolate fudge cake is well worth a try.

Gusto

Before Gusto appeared in Leeds city centre, the Gusto brand was a favourite for folk in the 'burbs. Of course the food here is as amazing as in the city centre (perhaps it tastes even sweeter knowing you're not paying for parking), and the pan fried duck breast is a delight.

Food aside, it really is all about the décor here. Offering a wonderful elegant surroundings in which to have a drink before dining, this is a great spot for a decadent meal and for those special occasions.

Cranberries

Cranberries Deli

This little cafe and deli is the perfect spot in Adel to crawl to when nursing a nasty hangover or craving a fine breakfast.

Offering delicious coffee and a delicious range of pastries and cakes, Cranberries will make you want to keep coming back for more. If you're looking for a filling lunch, the best bet is to opt for a freshly grilled panini, with an extensive list of fillings to choose from.
