The twelfth annual Thames Festival takes place between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge over the weekend, with an extensive programme of entertainment on and beside the Thames. On Sunday evening Victoria Embankment and Blackfriars Bridge close to traffic for a night carnival and the festival concludes spectacularly with a firework display from a barge on the river between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges. For the area on the South Bank the closest tube is Waterloo; for the area by the Tate Modern the nearest tubes are Blackfriars and Southwark; for the area by Southwark Bridge the nearest tube is Bank. For the area by Tower Bridge and The Scoop at More London, nearest tubes is London Bridge. Before you set out, it's worth checking with Transport for London (www.tfl.gov.uk) for other station and line closures affected by current engineering works.
