Replacing the Rise festival (after the major trade-union sponsors withdrew following the dropping of its anti-racism branding), Rhythm of London is the alternative festival organised by the Mayor's office. The first day is schools-focused; the second sees performances by emerging London bands take place at local venues including bandstands in Barnet, Hillingdon and Redbridge. One hundred 16-to-25-year-olds have won the chance to perform a 20-minute set at key busking spots as part of the London Underground Busking Scheme (locations include Bank, Westminster, Liverpool Street, Embankment, Victoria, Waterloo, Hammersmith and the O2). Drum Down Saturday at the Barbican is an hour-long family drumming workshop (1-2pm; 100 places: reserve yours at www.barbican.org.uk and take something to bang).
