The grand eighteenth-century courtyard at Somerset House provides one of the most impressive skating backdrops in town. The skate school offers lessons for beginners and there are special sessions for families, students and disabled people, as well as late-night skates and DJ nights. The Skate CafÈ & Bar (now with WiFi access) serves festive snacks and if you're anxious to part with more money you can visit the Tiffany Tuck shop, where jewellery, cupcakes and other treats are on offer (no prizes for guessing who is responsible for dressing the courtyard's towering Christmas tree).
