The setting should offer a clue that this one is the fun, eccentric race. Originally run in Covent Garden in the 1970s and '80s, the race transferred to Soho during the late '80s and early '90s, before moving to its Spitalfields home in 1993, taking place in the Old Market until most of it was pulled down, before settling in Dray Walk off Brick Lane. Teams of four in wacky costumes - from fashionable locals in specially created outfits to construction workers in their hardhats - run up and down this Truman Brewery spot, flipping pancakes to raise money for the London Air Ambulance through sponsorship or a donation on the day. Organiser Alternative Arts prefer it if you register in advance, but you can just show up and enter.
