Living Architecture and Artangel present this temporary installation, which remains in place for the whole of 2012, on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Around 500 artists and architects from around the world entered the competition to design 'A Room for London', the brief being to create a room on one of the most visible sites in the capital where up to two people at a time could spend a night in an architectural landmark. The winners, David Kohn Architects in collaboration with artist Fiona Banner, have come up with 'Roi de Belges' -a boat structure that evolved from ideas about travel and displacement in literature, in particular Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness'. The boat takes its name from the steamboat that Conrad captained on the Congo. Visitors, who can spend a night onboard, are invited to create their own narrative or record their experience. The boat also hosts a programme of 'thinkers-in-residence', including artists and writers, who are invited to muse on the city from their vantage point high above the Thames.

We were lucky enough to stay here last month and weren't disappointed. It's a hefty price tag, but then so is a hotel overlooking the Thames. Fantastic views and amazing detailing inside.

300 pounds a night for the most recent dates sold unless i am mistaken. How can people call this a room for London with a straight face?
