Retrospective of Cabaret Mechanical Theatre with over 80 pieces of hand-crafted automata (mechanical sculpture) telling the story of the company from its beginnings as a craft shop in Cornwall nearly 30 years ago. Between 1984 and 2000, the theatre resided in a hugely popular exhibition space in Covent Garden and this exhibition is an opportunity to reacquaint yourself with much-loved, humorous exhibits as well as learn about recent developments. Special focus is given to 'The Ride of Life', the ambitious, automated theme park and ride commissioned, and later axed, by the Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield during the 1980s. Working alongside one of the original artists, CMT has restored the only surviving part of the scheme as the centrepiece for this exhibition, which also features a series of talks and workshops.
