Weekly tours starting on Sunday will provide an opportunity to explore the headquarters of the BBC, the first-ever purpose-built broadcast centre in Britain, completed in 1932. The Broadcasting House tours will highlight surviving art-deco details such as Eric Gill’s sculptures of Prospero and Ariel from Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ on the building’s facade and the original mosaic floor in the main reception area. Also included are the newly restored Radio Theatre, home to ‘The Goons’ and ‘The News Quiz’, the Council Chamber, where BBC Governors’ and Board meetings once took place, and the new digital radio studios where Radio 3 and Radio 4 programmes are recorded.
