There are no definitive dos, don’ts or answers in this series of essays, interviews and sharing of experiences by established curators such as the Whitechapel’s Iwona Blazwick, this year’s Venice Biennale encumbent Robert Storr and Thelma Golden of Harlem’s Studio Museum. Among the issues up for discussion are architectural frameworks, themes, group shows and the importance of documentation in the form of catalogues, handouts and wall labels. Also up for debate is the role of the curator – as commissioner, publicist, producer and often more as collaborator than mere facilitator.
With the proliferation of academic courses now churning out graduates in the subject, this will provide informative reading both to those starting their curating careers and those already established in the field.
