Perched on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, with a commanding view of the river, this wonderfully whimsical temporary hotel room was designed by David Kohn Architects in collaboration with artist Fiona Banner in response to a competition organised by Living Architecture. It looks like a boat washed up by a freak high tide on the Thames and has proved a poetic addition to the Southbank skyline, playing host to numerous artists, musicians and thinkers as well as paying punters. We're delighted that it will be staying at the Southbank Centre for 2013 –offering Londoners and visitors the opportunity to stay for a night in this lofty yet surprisingly cosy space. Nights, which cost £300 (for up to two people) will be sold via ballots on a regular basis throughout the year. The first ballot, for nights in January and February 2013, closed at midnight on December 19. The next ballot (for available March and April 2013 nights) is planned to run from January 23 to January 30.
